I came to Mid North Coast of NSW in 1980, settling on a small rural property where we built a house, established a large garden and became involved in the community. I worked in a variety of health, welfare and education jobs for over 25 years. In 1986 I established Tapalinga Rugs, a small rug weaving business with weaver and designer Diana Wood Conroy. I came to potting as I did to several crafts from the perspective of ‘this could be a fun thing to do’ and from my first experience of clay I was hooked. The beauty of the sub tropics is a constant stimulus and inspiration for artists. The proximity to the sea and to the grandeur of the mountains maintain the sense of wonder at the infinite variety of shapes, colours, light and patterns provided by nature. Expressing this wonder in clay has been my focus for the past eleven years.

I trained at TAFE completing the three year training in studio ceramics. Coffs Harbour potters are very fortunate to have the support of the TAFE staff. I have established a ceramic practice in my home studio. I join with others to raku fire at my studio and to wood fire at TAFE. In 2003 I joined with some keen potters to establish Coastal ClayMakers Inc, a network of professional and hobbyist potters from the Coffs Harbour, Nambucca and Bellingen Shires. It is a delight to be the President of this vibrant group. Monthly meetings with guest demonstrators and lecturers, an excellent monthly Newsletter and workshops twice a year give rural potters the opportunity to increase their skills and enhance their ceramic practice. | ||||||
